Oh the serendipity! I’ve just sat down to have a cold drink after being out in the back shed sorting out my worldly possessions that have been out there getting chewed up by rats since COVID because I too moved back home to care for mum. I’m tempted to set fire to it all but I’m pretty sure there’s a fire ban.
I’d volunteer to help investigate the failures of NAAC and I won’t charge as much as all the bloated bureaucrats. Anything to avoid the shed.
I got the Nervous Laughter re-subscribe email this week and I have never been happier to give someone my hard earned. Another excellent piece, thank you.
A most satisfying read, as always, and a reminder to recommence the Kondo-sorting and disbursement of my worldly possessions. I’ll be keeping my copy of Mean Streak.
I laughed in all the right places, so yes fun indeed! Thanks for your hard work and determination to get to the truth of all the things. Have we ever needed serious journalism more than now, in these troubling times in which we find ourselves?
My big wish in life is to write as well as you do. It’s only a dream but I adore that you can write about the seemingly driest issues with warmth and compassion. And the same for everything else, I don’t think I ever read through anyone else’s itinerary. And life? It’s that shit that happens while you’re planning what to do with your life past and future. Take it from an old woman. Lesson I wish I’d learned earlier.
Honestly, the sheer HUBRIS of anyone writing their itinerary and thinking it's even worth putting down. In my defence, it is merely as self-promotion (ha!) and not because I think it is inherently interesting. But you are so kind! How lovely, I needed that pep in my step today.
Pleased you are ok Rick…I was getting a bit worried..I bought Mean Streak and also downloaded the audiobook from my local library..just finished listening even after following your coverage every single day actually hearing the sequence of events bought home the importance of this book..well done you..
So fitting that you're leading a class titled 'writing with heart and humour' Thats the way your own writing and investigative work lands with me - they could add 'and being as tenacious as a dog with a bone' to make the description complete, but it's otherwise perfect! We are so fortunate that you investigate the hell out of anything that you think worthy (or maybe unworthy works better) :)
Sending energy, and dare I say loving hugs. Looks like more bus times ahead. Smiled, frowned, anger as I read. Brilliant as always. Full of life, humour, emotion, empathy as well as brilliance writing. Love Deb and the smoke. Father Frank seems to be staying around a bit more. Obviously not finished his earthly business yet
'On Sunday we are going to have a lot of fun at Adelaide Town Hall during a live comedy show of sorts called Mistakes Were Made hosted by the brilliant Richard Fidler and the stellar Sarah Kanowski. We will take turns telling stories about the times things went seriously wrong, for us and others. This one is at 12.30pm and ticketed at $39'.
I'd walk on hot coals to be at this one - but do you not go further west than Adelaide?
In WA we might be loaded with money & rocks, but culture & particularly laughs are a long way away and in short supply. Wall to wall whining hate filled politicking is driving everyone bonkers.

"Anything to avoid the shed" is now going straight to my quotes folder.
😆
Cracker piece, Rick, thanks! Laughed aloud at some bits. Newly appalled at some other bits.
Ditto everything Tess said - you are so you Rick 👍👌🤩
Yes! Commissioner Brereton should preferably be on Mars. Perhaps we could put him on Elon's next launch!
There truly is nothing to see there...

I've always said you were among the smartest and sexiest members of our species, Merryl
Wow Rick. You’ve got a fan-girl there in Sen.Barbara Pocock. 👏👏👏 Way to close your story!!!
This months entry really shows us how flat out you’ve been & huge congratulations to you.
From the NACC debacle to BoM disgrace, all with (hopefully positive) outcomes from your investigative work. Thank you for all that you do.
P.S. sorry I haven’t got room for a King size bed🤷♀️ Hope it finds a home. 🥰
Mes (Creek).

I’m keeping mine. To re read but also because it reminds me why I should be OK with being a tad Bolshie!
Thanks it was very well written as you would expect. I hope all goes well for you on tour.

Great newsletter. Wish I could make it to Adelaide, have fun. Maybe it will make it onto Conversations.
Yes please.
A U-Turn ouroboros!!! 👌🏻👌🏻 We’ve all been there!

The reading through the itinerary bit was a compliment. And glad to have added pep to your step.
I concur! I even got the map up to see take a street view look at Adelaide Town Hall. Enjoy the AF..
Official material, your book is. The turkducken is a great way to describe the NACC
A turducken of fuckery

You were getting a bit worried! You should have seen me!
